Estate Gift of $1.1 Million Donated to Wesleyan

West Virginia Wesleyan College has received an unrestricted donation of $1.1 million from the estate of Charles J. Wallace, Jr. ’47.  This is the second estate gift of $1 million or more that the private College has received in the past month.

Wallace was a history major and English minor at Wesleyan and enjoyed a distinguished career as a Federal Circuit Court Clerk in New York.  He was a charter member of the College’s Wesleyan Society, a leadership giving circle, and the Reger Society, which represents alumni and friends who include Wesleyan in their estate plan.

“Mr. Wallace had a lifelong commitment to his alma mater, and this transforming gift will establish an enduring legacy at Wesleyan,” stated Bob Skinner ’75, vice president for advancement.  “Many individuals who have worked in the Advancement Office through the years enjoyed interacting with Charles and listening to his stories about his college experience.  Wesleyan is grateful for his incredible generosity and his enthusiastic support of the College’s mission.”

Thanks to the Wallace donation, Wesleyan’s “Enhancing Our Tradition, Empowering Our Future” capital campaign has surpassed $28 million.  The Campaign, which was launched publicly last October, has a goal of $30 million with a targeted ending date of June 30, 2017.
