Our Mission

Our Mission

West Virginia Wesleyan College is home to students of different racial, cultural and religious backgrounds. While approximately 50% of our students hail from West Virginia, regional differences prevail at Wesleyan. A student from Beverly may have a different cultural experience than the student from Charleston or Huntington. The same is true for our students from areas such as Trenton, Brooklyn and Washington, DC. One in 11 students on campus is a person of color. Our international student community represents 16 countries. For many students, this setting will be significantly more diverse than those previously experienced. For others, this community will be considerably more homogenous. Wesleyan strives to be a community that embraces and values both differences and similarities. The Office of Intercultural Relations serves the Wesleyan community as a resource during transition and throughout the college experience.

Mission Statement

In step with the mission statements of the college and the Student Affairs Division, the Intercultural Relations Office promotes an appreciation of cultural diversity and fosters mutual respect and cooperation among people of different cultures through various programs and services, thus helping to lay a foundation for understanding among peoples.

First and foremost, the role of the Office of Intercultural Relations is to promote student success, student leadership, and multicultural awareness.
