Graduate testimonials

The sociology department at WVWC is truly phenomenal. I not only had the opportunity to take several eye-opening courses, but also to complete independent studies and internships as well as research. These experiences were life-changing and prepared me to pursue a graduate degree in sociology knowing I had more than sufficient training to be successful in the job market or in pursuing an even higher academic degree.  The faculty of the department go above and beyond their duties to be encouraging and supportive to their students while also challenging students to push the limits of their academic and professional goals.

After transferring into an Intro to Criminal Justice course with Dr. Miller the fall of my sophomore year I have yet to look back and consider changing my major. I was undecided when I transferred into the course and after the experience I had learning about the laws, behaviors, crimes and criminals in our society I decided this is what I wanted to do. I have been able to make great connections and earn valuable experience as a criminal justice major that will help me in any future explorations. I’m very grateful I transferred into that class on a whim and definitely haven’t looked back!

—Teena Marcum, 13 Criminal Justice Major

I first fell in love with Criminal Justice on accident when I took one of their general education classes. Soon after I decided to take CJ up as a major. The teachers are fantastic and so helpful. I served as the President of the Criminal Justice Student Association (Kappa Mu). I am proud of the work we did for the community and school. Now that I am in graduate school, I realize how much the program prepared me for this experience.

—Kristen Kisner, 14 Criminal Justice and Psychology

“Coming to Wesleyan, I wasn’t sure if criminal justice was what I honestly wanted to do. Now that I have graduated and am working in the criminal justice system, I know I couldn’t have decided on a better major.”

—Kyle McGee, 13 Criminal Justice

The criminal justice program at Wesleyan has given me more opportunities than I can even mention.  The professors in the department of Criminal Justice and Sociology stopped at nothing to make sure I experienced success while learning and understanding the world of social science and its role in the justice system.   From an amazing internship opportunity, to involvement in the Criminal Justice Student Organization, I’ve experienced the benefits that Wesleyan has to offer.  I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and privilege to be a part of the Criminal Justice department here at Wesleyan.

—Zach Perkey, 13 Criminal Justice

Being a CJ major has truly given me great opportunities, from an amazing study abroad trip, to an enlightening internship within a federal agency. Using all that I have learned in the CJ department, I have unlimited opportunities to get into a great workforce and further pursue my goals in law enforcement.

—JT Noland 15 Criminal Justice

I changed my major to Criminal Justice after my freshman year, and as I look back now I know I made the right decision. The faculty and curriculum here at WVWC has shown me that there are endless opportunities to help people in this field. In the end, to be able to get an education from such an amazing institution and be prepared to pursue a career in something you love is such a blessing.

—Tyler Gordon 15 Criminal Justice

Choosing to pursue a major in Sociology and a minor in criminal justice at WVWC has changed my life. The academic curriculum has not only successfully provided me with the knowledge I need to be successful in the field, but the professors have also provided me with numerous life changing opportunities. The bottom line is I would not be in the amazing place in my life that I am today without making the commitment to the WVWC sociology/criminal justice program.

—Rachel Clemons 15 Sociology

I have always had a passion for being a Law Enforcement Officer before arriving to WVWC. The Criminal Justice program gave me the knowledge I needed to make my dream come true. The professors gave me amazing advice about the field and helped me obtain an internship that really helped my resume. A Bachelor’s Degree and an internship in the field of Criminal Justice has put me ahead of the rest of applicants. The professors are very passionate about teaching.
