Soeren Doessing

Hometown: Lost Creek, WV
Major: Marketing/ Minor in Gender Studies
Date: Summer 2015
Company: WV Radio Corporation, Mount Clare, WV – Marketing/ PR Intern
Length of Internship: 2 Months

Responsibilities: I came up with ideas for events, updated community calendars, and did other marketing and promotional work to assist radio personality Sarah Rowan of Magic 106.5.

What was learned: I learned the day-to-day business of the radio station, and the office setting as a whole. I also learned how to use some online calendar and planning programs that may be beneficial to me in the future.

How did it affect your education: It was my chance to take the things that I had learned in the classroom and turn them into real-world experience.

Do you feel more prepared: Definitely. Being in a professional setting was great practice for having an actual job soon.

How will it affect your future: I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with marketing in the future, but having some real-world experience really helped me have more of an idea of what I want to do when I graduate. I’m also more confident in my ability to find a job in my field now.

Recommendations: I recommend looking for an internship even if you are not required to have one; you can never be too prepared. I took on my internship last minute and it was a great experience that I wish could have lasted longer. I would recommend that everyone look into internship opportunities as soon as they are able to!
